2007 Honorary Memberships
Friends of San Angelo State Park
Delbert Tarter and John Olson were awarded plagues commemorating  Honorary Membership in
FoSASP by Ruth Jordan, president.  Jake Landers, not present, was also designated Best Friend
of the Park.  

Honorary membership or "Best Friend of the Park"  was bestowed to John Olson and Jake
Landers by proclamation of the Board of Advisors.  The two park benefactors were awarded
plaques at the Annual meeting and social recently.

R.Q. (Jake) Landers, Biologist emeritus, has contributes informative and interesting articles for
this newsletter about the flora at the park.  A regular feature since 1999, Jake's articles pinpoint
particular plant with photos and salient information.  Jake, is a retired biologist, is well-known by
native plant enthusiasts in West Texas.  A native of Menard, Texas, he also writes for the
Livestock Weekly and the Menard News.  

John Olson is a long-time member of FoSASP and supporter of events in the park.  A visit to the
park was a favorite outing for his late wife Dorothy.  He has made a substantial donation to
Friends that will provide funds to complete the construction of an outdoor theater near Chaparral
Pavilion.   

Delbert Tarter, who was proclaimed Honorary Member in 2006, was also presented with a plaque.  
He was honored for his interest in promoting bird watching in the park.  He also contributes
article to the newsletter about the birds.  He was instrumental in the publishing of a colorful
brochure "Discover Why bird Lovers are Flocking to San Angelo.  The brochure is a checklist for
birds seen in specified locals near San Angelo including a list of 27 identified at SASP.  The
brochure is available at the San Angelo Visitor Center.
